UPDATE 9:50AM: The Carson City Communications Dispatch Center reports the widespread phone outage that began Monday night hasn't affected 911 calls coming in. So far no one has complained to dispatchers that they had a difficult time reaching 911 through to dispatch, said Marlon Moncada, communications supervisor for Carson City.
AT&T has been sending updates to the dispatch center, the Sheriff's Office and the Carson City Fire Department about the problems and have worked to resolve immediate issues that involve 911 emergency service first, Moncada said.
"What we have been told is there is a group that is working with 911 centers so the community is able to call 911 and not experience problems," he said.
Meanwhile, messages to Carson Now have come from several readers stating their cell phone, internet and DSL services remain out of service with AT&T, Virgin, Sprint, Boost Mobile.

UPDATE 7:40AM: AT&T tells KOLO Channel 8 Reno that most of its Northern Nevada customers have had their cell phone and landline service restored. The service disruption was reportedly because of a software problem out of the AT&T Reno office, according to the story.

UPDATE 11:07PM: Landline and cell phone service that has been disrupted since early Monday evening throughout Carson City and Northern Nevada is affecting customers trying to use debit cards and ATM machines. It has also, according to one off-duty casino security officer, shut down state-run casino games such as Megabucks, which are plugged into a large network.
The security guard, who did not want to be identified, said casino managers received a phone call early this evening from gaming officials from IGT asking about casino games being down.
"There's something wrong with state games is all we were told," the security guard said. KRNV News 4 reports the Reno-Tahoe International Airport had some computer problems Monday evening.
An Arco AM/PM store on North Carson Street reports an uptick in customers. A clerk said customers have been telling him they couldn't swipe their debit or credit cards at other places they've tried. The clerk said there hasn't been a problem with its own debit and credit card machine because it is run through a separate satellite system.
Meanwhile, Randy Cheeme, owner of Capital Liquors in the 1500 block of Carson Street reports losing business because his credit card machine and his ATM machines were not working.
"Yes, I lost quite a few customers tonight because they can't use and I can't swipe the cards," said Cheeme. His own personal cell phone and computer with Internet are both connected to Integra, which did not experience problems.
Carson Now readers said they have experienced problems with Verizon, Boost Mobile, AT&T and Sprint.
It is unclear how widespread the problem is, but it does appear to be throughout Northern Nevada. South Lake Tahoe and North Lake Tahoe do not appear to be experiencing the same problem with either cell or landline.
People who need to contact 911 should do so with either landline or cell phone, which ever are working.
